First Day Out!
We got started early today and were rolling down the road by 9:30am. First stop, Baton Rouge, LA. We lived in Baton Rouge for seven years and know the town pretty well. We still have close friends here. Al and Jeanne Burns (Al is my coauthor) but they are out of town. And Libbo's cousin, Kitty Kuhnert and her husband Ed, live just south in Gonzalez. We found an interesting RV Park near LSU. The Farr Equestrian Center and RV Park is located near the Vet School and right on the levy of the Mississippi River. We had an uneventful trip (thank goodness) until we got about 40 miles from Baton Rouge. The bottom fell out. Weather radio was warning strong thunderstorms, hail and lightning. We got rain so heavy we almost pulled over but crept along with the rest of the traffic at about 40mph. By the time we got to BR the rain slacked up to just a pour. Good old GPS got us to the RV Park. It is a well manicured park with horses everywhere. Also, many nice RVs. I think if you own horses, you probably can have a nice RV! They were having a horse show..horses running around barrels we were told. But, it was raining and the PGA was on TV. We watched the PGA which was very exciting.
After the PGA the rain finally quit and we took Maggie for a long walk and met some of our neighbors in RVs. One lady is traveling with her four kids. They are from Austin, TX and they are here to visit the oldest daughter who will be a sophomore at LSU. I will take some photos as soon as we get some good sunlight.
We have found that we sleep well in Cream Puff. Unlike boats, where we've spent the last few decades on vacations, RVs do not move around on anchor, waves don't slap up against the side walls, and you don't get rocked as a boat passes by ignoring the no wake zone in which you've anchored! But, we still love boating.
So our first day we covered 267 miles. This am we are off to Stonewall, :LA which is just south of Keatchi, LA, the home of our long-time boating friends, Tom and Mary Nesbitt. Keatchi is just south of Shreveport, LA. We are going to do some exploring and then hit the road north!
Love this update! So excited to hear of adventures along the way as you find fresh views of this beautiful country and its people.
