September 15, 2014  Monday Travel to Glacier National Park

We bid farewell to Michelle who headed off to Idaho Falls to catch her plane back to Winston-Salem.  Fiona had her oil changed in West Yellowstone and we were ready to take the 370 mile, 6 hour trip from West Yellowstone to Kalispell, MT.  We had an enjoyable day and Lib drove for almost two hours.

We arrived in Kalispell about 4pm and were delighted to find that it has many more facilities than West Yellowstone that are close to our RV Park.  They even have a real grocery store but still no real bagels.  Its hard to get Ray's New York bagels out west.

Our RV park is a Good Sam park.  Good Sam is just an association that RVers use.  Its much like AAA.  They publish directories of RV parks complete with ratings and they offer specialized services like travel insurance and road service for the RV crowd. Spruce Park on the River is located on the Flathead River and we overlook the river.  This is what we see when we open our door.  I took this photo about 6 am when taking Maggie out for her am walk.
The Flathead River

The Flathead River runs by the park and has a very rapid flow of about 4, maybe even 5 knots.  You can see the eddies in the photo above. You would not want to try to swim in this river.

During the day we see fishing boats just floating down the river.  They don't use a motor because they are just drifting with the current.  Someone mans oars to keep off the rocks and bank.  I took this photo and if you enlarge the photo you will see that a trout is jumping out of the water on the right side of the photo!  Got lucky.

We read our guide books and tomorrow we are ready to go to Glacier National Park.

  1. Thanks to Michelle, I now have your blog on my Iphone's home screen so I can more easily catch-up. Love your present locale. It's yet another beautiful facet in your jewel of a trip. See you soon, crick don't rise.
